Learn to drive with Cowal equipment!

The British School of Motoring, now run by The AA have branches all over the UK with adapted Vauxhall Corsa  'D'  vehicles. The adapted vehicles have Cowal hand controls, instructor brakes, Cowal Twin Flip-Ups, steering knobs or infra-red systems, and other Cowal modifications to suit most disabled learner drivers.

We share a very close relationship with the organisation, who have over 200 modified vehicles throughout the UK with dedicated instructors trained to teach drivers with disabilities. BSM are now partnered with Motability and the AA, and the cost of your lessons can be covered by Motability if you qualify. It is also invaluable to take a couple of lessons if you are newly disabled and have not driven with modifications before.

We are very proud of the Fiat Punto vehicles in their current fleet, which will very soon be replaced with lovely new Vauxhall Corsa's.

BSM instructors will order from us any special adaptation you may require which will assist you during your lessons, and Cowal will happily convert your car when you`ve passed your driving test.

Cowal also shares a close relationship with Dual Control Services in Dunstable who specialise in installing He-Man dual controls for driving schools but also undertake installations of Cowal hand controls and Twin Flip-ups (and other controls if required). They cover the Bucks, Oxon, Beds area on a mobile basis. 

Buy a vehicle but don't pay the VAT!

If you are disabled, you are entitled to buy a new or used vehicle with the VAT element at Zero rate. This is a great saving on the cost of a vehicle if you want to own your car and don't wish to lease through an organisation like Motability.

It is a straight forward procedure but must be carried out in the right sequence. At Cowal we have the relevant documents to assist with the purchase and will deal with the dealership for you.

Disabled Living Foundation

The DLF provides advice and information on all aspects of disability equipment. They have a database of products and suppliers with details of conversion, hoists and lifting equipment, car seats, vehicle for hire, vehicle accessories and much more. Its always worth contacting them.

Mobilise

The Disabled Drivers Motor Club and Disabled Drivers Association merged to form Mobilise in 2005. Mobilise is a self help organisation run for the disabled by disabled people, and encourages greater independence through enhanced mobility. They provide information and have a regular magazine for members.

Forum of Mobility Centres

Your first stop is likely to be a Mobility Centre for advice and an assessment of your needs. There are 17 Mobility Centres in the UK.

They give practical amd independent advice and assessment to disabled drivers and passengers.

MOTABILITY The car Leasing Scheme

If you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, getting a new car is easier and more affordable than ever. Through Motability, you simply turn part or all of that allowance into the car of your choice.

Motability will also cover all of part of the cost of adapting the vehicle to suit your disability.

The Mobility Roadshow

Mobility Roadshows have a wide range of adapted cars to see and try, as well as mobility products. Manufacturers and organisations are on hand to give advice and demostrations. The Mobility Roadshows are free and take place annually in England and every two years in Scotland. We always have a number of adapted vehicles at the show to you to drive.
